A few days ago, I was visited by a man who had just finished working in Saudi Arabia. He was still under the influence of Wahhabi[1] thought. He came out of curiosity, rather than respect, to see what the takya was about. As I talked to him, Allah put His light in his heart and he said:

Let me be open with you. I came to buy land in this area, but when I learned that there will be a takya, I lost my desire to buy land. But after visiting you and listening to you, the effect of your words on me has been great. By Allah, my brother, I would like to take the pledge, but I would also like all of my family and relatives to come here and see what I saw.

I replied: “I am merely a messenger of Shaikh Muḥammad al-Kasnazan. All that you have heard and seen is due to his spiritual blessings and help.” He then took the pledge. Today he came with twenty-nine people from five families and said: “They are all servants of the takya. They have come to take the pledge.” I gave them the pledge.

Footnote

[1] Wahhabism is a religious movement that was started by Muḥammad bin ʿAbd al-Wahhāb (1703-1793), who lived in today’s Saudi Arabia. It is a very narrow interpretation of Islam and a school of thought that accuses many Muslims of polytheism, as it rejects Islamic concepts and practices that are known from the early days of Islam. Wahhabism focuses on appearance and denies the spiritual dimensions of religion, which is why it rejects Sufism.
