Repeated Instruction by Shaikh ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Gaylānī on Taking the Pledge

Date: 14/10/2012
Location: Bangarapet – Kolar – Karnataka

I went to a village seventy kilometres from Bangalore and then to another village where I gave the pledge to forty-five people. Among them there was a man who recounted the following:

I have seen our Master al-Gaylānī in my dreams three times. Every time he would say: “Join my family,” I would reply: “How do I do that, O my Master, the Greatest Ghawth?” He would reply: “Give me your hand.”[1] I would then wake up. When you said today: “Give me your hand” and then I started reciting the pledge, I remembered the dream. I felt reassured that this was indeed the way of al-Gaylānī.

Footnote

[1] As mentioned earlier, taking the pledge of Ṭarīqa Kasnazāniyya is by putting the hand of the person seeking to take the pledge in the hand of the caliph.
